Let’s be honest … staying healthy while traveling can feel like a challenge. Between airport snacks, endless vacation cocktails, and wanting to try all the local food, it’s easy to slip out of your normal routine. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to go all-or-nothing. With a little intention (and some flexibility), you can enjoy your trip and come home feeling great.
Here are some of our favorite wellness tips that we actually use while on the road (or at sea, or in the air … you get the idea).
Hydration is Queen (and King)
If you follow us, you know we don’t go anywhere without our electrolyte packets (Ultima grape flavor is the current MVP). Long flights, salty food, sun exposure, and boozy beach days will all dehydrate you fast—so we make hydration part of our daily routine while traveling. Pack a reusable water bottle, mix in some electrolytes, and aim to drink before you feel thirsty.
Eat Like You Normally Would… Most of the Time
We are 100% going to eat pasta in Italy and croissants in France — but we also try to include one solid meal a day that has protein, fiber, and real nutrients. It’s not about skipping the fun stuff; it’s about balancing it with food that helps your body feel its best. For us, that usually means a healthier breakfast or lunch so we can go all out at dinner.
Walk, Walk, Walk
Walking is the easiest (and honestly, best) way to stay active while traveling. We average 15,000+ steps a day on most trips, not because we’re forcing it—but because exploring on foot is the best way to see a new place. Skip the Uber, wear the comfy shoes, and rack up those steps while discovering hidden corners, markets, and views.
Keep a Tiny Routine
If you normally work out, stretch, or meditate at home, try keeping a mini version of that while you travel. Ten minutes of stretching in the morning, a quick core session on the balcony, or even a 15-minute yoga flow in your hotel room can make a big difference. Not every day—but just enough to stay in the rhythm.
Don’t Skimp on Sleep (Unless It’s for Something Epic)
Travel can mess with your sleep — time zone changes, unfamiliar beds, jam-packed itineraries. We try to prioritize sleep most nights, but we’re also not skipping a sunset rooftop dinner just to get eight hours. It’s all about balance. Pack earplugs (hi, Loop Earplugs!), a sleep mask, and anything else that helps you wind down, especially when switching locations often.
Mental Health = Travel Health
Travel is good for the soul — but it can also be overwhelming at times. Crowds, delays, plans going sideways… it happens. We try to build in a little downtime on every trip — whether it’s a quiet coffee on the balcony, reading on the beach, or doing absolutely nothing for a couple of hours. Recharging mentally keeps the whole trip more enjoyable.
No Guilt Trips on Trips
At the end of the day, travel is meant to be enjoyed. If your version of vacation wellness looks like a hike before breakfast, amazing. If it looks like a croissant and a beach nap, also amazing. Wellness while traveling doesn’t have to mean restriction — it just means listening to what your body needs and making small choices that help you feel good along the way.
