Ultimate Guide to Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is one of our absolute FAVORITE Caribbean destinations. With five extended stays on the island and over seven visits via cruise ship, we’ve come to know this paradise very well. From its crystal-clear waters and stunning beaches to the incredible dining options and unique adventures, Grand Cayman is a destination that continues to call us back. Whether you’re planning your first visit or looking for insider tips to make your next trip unforgettable, this blog will guide you through where to stay, what to do, and where to eat on this remarkable island. Let’s dive into all the reasons why Grand Cayman should be on your travel radar.

Where To Stay

For our home base on Grand Cayman, we stayed at Azure Breeze #4, a charming three-bedroom, two-bath beachfront house located on the island’s tranquil North Side. This rental was perfect for our group of three couples, offering plenty of space and all the comforts we needed for a relaxing getaway. The house sits right on the beach, so we could step outside and enjoy the crystal-clear waters and soft sands anytime we pleased.

One of the best parts of staying at Azure Breeze was its proximity to two of our favorite spots on the island—Rum Point and Kaibo. Both are just a short drive away, making it easy to explore some of the island’s best dining and recreation without venturing too far. The North Side is much more residential and peaceful compared to the bustling tourist hub of Georgetown, which gave us a chance to experience the more laid-back side of island life. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat with direct beach access and a true island feel, Azure Breeze is a fantastic choice!

What To Do

Grand Cayman offers an incredible variety of activities for every type of traveler. A boat day is an absolute must, and companies like Red Sail Sports or Cayman Private Charters make it easy to enjoy the turquoise waters. The highlight of any boat excursion has to be Stingray City—a world-famous sandbar where you can interact with Southern stingrays in their natural habitat. Standing in waist-deep water, you’ll have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to feed and gently touch these gentle giants as they glide gracefully around you. It’s an exhilarating experience that combines a bit of adventure with awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, and it’s a quintessential Grand Cayman activity we believe no visitor should miss.

Beyond Stingray City, boat trips often include stops at Starfish Point, a serene beach where you can see and hold beautiful starfish while enjoying the calm, shallow waters. For a unique nighttime adventure, book a bioluminescence tour to witness the magical glow of the water as you kayak or boat through one of the few bioluminescent bays in the world.

Animal enthusiasts will love the Turtle Sanctuary, officially called the Cayman Turtle Centre. This interactive park is home to a wide variety of turtles, from tiny hatchlings to massive green sea turtles. Visitors can learn about the turtles’ life cycle, swim alongside them in a lagoon, or simply enjoy observing them in their natural habitats. It’s an experience that’s equal parts fun and educational, making it especially great for families.

For adrenaline junkies, jet ski rentals on Seven Mile Beach are an absolute thrill. You’ll have the option to cruise on regular jet skis or take it up a notch with high-performance “sports car” jet skis, which are sleek, fast, and make you feel like you’re gliding across the water in an actual sports car! If you’re a fan of underwater adventures, Grand Cayman’s scuba diving is world-renowned. The island boasts spectacular dive sites, including shipwrecks, coral reefs, and even underwater walls that drop into the abyss. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or looking to try it for the first time, there are plenty of dive shops offering excursions and PADI-certified training courses.

When it’s time to relax, check out the island’s charming beach clubs. Rum Point, Kaibo, and Bonny Moon are all excellent choices, each offering delicious food, refreshing drinks, and stunning oceanfront views. Whether you’re into high-energy water sports or laid-back beach vibes, Grand Cayman is a paradise filled with unforgettable experiences.
